#2 – You’re doing a little thinking there – very good. But I get a different idea on the Twain quote than what you want it to. There is more than one idea of schools. There are the obsolete kinds of schools that we see these days and there are schools designed to educate students to their abilities. To continue to fund these corrupt, obscene so-called schools overseen by these idiot BOE’s is the problem and exactly confirms Twain’s quote that you use.
#3. Your opinion of the public school system is just that, your opinion. There are plenty of public vocational schools that operate in a way that would satisfy your desire that they teach a skill. The public school system in the country educates over 50 million children. Is it perfect? No, far from it. But your over the top disdain for the public education system is based on biases and prejudices that you have. The BOE is not at fault. Your rage should be focused on parents that rely on the school to not only educate their children, but to discipline them as well. Twain’s quote about school boards was aimed at one in particular and it had to do with taxes, not education. Twain was a big believer in education and had utter disdain for those who didn’t read books. You want everything to be the way YOU want it to be. The world doesn’t work like that. I’m sorry.
In other news: how about that speech by Hannah D? Wow! Hope for the future is alive and well.
Unfortunately the adult she was addressing disconnected rather than face the music.
#4 – Some of what you say is correct of course but for the most part, what you say isn’t correct. For example. I, also agree with the idea of “education”. But not from anything to do with this corrupt, obsolete system we have. Anything the boe is involved with is corrupt and rotten to the core. So, if you think the young men are getting what they need in “trade schools,” you’re quite mistaken. Only knowledgeable, independent (not affiliated with public education in any way) tradesmen can provide adequate training to young men and women.

#6 again, your opinion. When’s the last time you were involved with any school system? You have zero experience with the public education system. Trade school educators are, for the most part, retired trades men and women who are perfectly capable of teaching their trade. The BOE is ‘corrupt and rotten to the core’? Being on the BOE is a thankless unpaid job. You think they’re in it for the glory?
I support the school system because I have children in it. As I said, it’s not perfect but it is what we have. The public schools don’t get to chose the children they educate. Their mandate is to educate. Period. Maybe you can lend a hand rather than condemning the entire system without having any actual knowledge of how it works.

Correct, but once they come under the “education” system, they lose all their autonomy and must comply with rules made up by people who don’t have any background in their trade or any other trade.

I know trade school teachers. They are dedicated people who teach their skill to kids who want to learn. It is unhealthy for you to go around with set in stone opinions about things you don’t understand. Unfortunately you’re not alone, It’s a symptom of fear. It’s gonna be ok sir.
