#1 This letter is straight forward, succinct, and honest. Three adjectives no one would ever associate with politics.
Someone is responsible for this event. Yes, mechanisms break down and generators can fail. But this was clearly due to deferred maintenance. That means someone dropped the ball. Where politics come in to play is when no one in charge accepts responsibility for the problem.
So, if anything, this letter exposes the politicization of the committee that runs the senior center.
I don’t agree w Mr Beam on most things. But this letter shows an honest frustration that we should all feel. I don’t think he could do any better.
This was already a difficult situation for the seniors to endure. For Mr. Bean to jump on the political bandwagon to grandstand against any and everyone was unnecessary. I guess he had nothing better to do that day.
#1&4 youre letting party loyalty cloud your judgment. Mr Bean is calling out those responsible. It’s not politicizing. Not even close.
#6 maybe enroll in an analogy class. This wasn’t a hurricane or some other natural disaster. This was negligence pure and simple. Where there is negligence, there is culpability. Mr Bean is just pointing it out. He should be applauded for having the courage to do so. You, like the others bashing him on here, have blinders on for your political team and refuse to accept when they screw up. That is the dictionary definition of politicizing.
This is really upsetting. I have lived in the senior building for 10+ years. First time experienced a power outage because generators are not being maintained. The elevator was out for 22 hours.. The elevator service said it is a “temporary fix.” Machines fail because the person who is supposed to maintain on a regular basis
failed to do so. If you take the time to watch The Belmar Housing Meeting of Sept.6th, you will hear tenants addressing Exec Dir. Paul DeSantis. Do NOT MAKE THIS ABOUT POLITICS! Oh, btw, the day after the meeting, the Boro dropped off flyers at the senior building inviting them to a luncheon at the Belmar Fishing Club, Sept 20th.. Now who is drinking the cool aid!
#9 please please please for all that is holy, stop using that tired reference. It is used, ironically, by people who are for the most part, blindly believing cults of personality. It has become a tired line used by people who know zero about the Jonestown massacre. The letter is not political. He is pointing out a failure and asking if someone would please take responsibility for it. That’s it. You think it’s political because you like the people he is calling out. Period. In other words, you are politicizing it. There is no mention of party, or ideology, or anything else. It is about elderly tenants who suffered due to incompetence. If you had a loved one in that building you’d be cheering the letter as a call to action. If you don’t think that it’s important to get to the bottom of this, and you think that the people he is calling out are beyond reproach because of a little letter next to their name, then I have one question; how’s that kool aid taste?
Btw, Jim Jones forced those people to drink the poisoned fruit punch (it wasn’t kool aid). He and his thugs had just murdered Democratic Congressman Leo Ryan and members of his staff as they were about to board a plane back to the US. Congressman Ryan was there to investigate the compound and explore rumors of people held against their will. Jones knew the end was near and he killed 900 people (300 under the age of 17) then himself (he shot himself after he saw how much pain the poison caused. Like all cult leaders, he was a coward and a liar). Most of the men women and children who consumed the poison did so at gunpoint. There are Jim Jones figures today. Charismatic people with wealth and influence who use fear and divisive language to tap into underlying prejudice and rage. It’s astounding what some people will believe.
#12 it was great. They bought everyone a sandwich and said “here ya go! Sorry about not doing even the most basic function of our job. Oh, and don’t make this political please. Even though it isn’t political, we find that when we accuse people of that, it rallies the sheep and it helps protect our phony baloney positions”.
Hahahaha. And every minute, a sucker is born. Keep up the fight Mr Bean. When they start accusing you of ‘being political’ it means they know what they did was wrong are fresh out of ideas.
Maybe Jim cares for the seniors. Maybe this also struck a cord with Mr. Bean because he himself has a child with special needs. I am sure he was appalled that there were people with walkers stuck on the first floor and did not have the ability to make it upstairs to their rooms. Why is it that if you defended someone or a situation that is BAD it’s made political?
Give him a break and thank him for speaking up against this unimaginable episode that happened to these poor people.
C’mon people? Research a little history; It doesn’t take much effort.
Considering in May of 2013 that Jim Bean was the sole Republican on the Belmar Council when he lodged ethics complaints against Democrat Mayor Matt Doherty, and then ran for council in 2019 as an Independent candidate; It seems Jim Bean is simply an outspoken leader who has been reviled in the past by Democrats and now by Republicans.
He was ahead of his time on the count of standing up to Doherty when many of us thought he was divisive for doing so, and ahead of his time for running as an Independent. Now, looking back at his decisions in the past he seems to be anything but political, and although it did not work out for him, in hindsight his struggle was somewhat heroic, epically prescient, and resoundingly true as well.
This letter, politicizing this mechanical breakdown is absurd. Jim Bean you could do better.

glad the Belmar PD emergency electric back-up worked!

#1,3.4…and were you at the meeting ?
Jim has done more for the seniors than anyone in Belmar. Stop the vitriol!
The vitriol was started by Bean with that ridiculous letter. Maybe we should blame the mayor if we get struck by a hurricane too!

#7. You nailed it! Thank you.
If you don’t think that letter is political then it’s obvious you drank too much cool aid

#15 – Well said sir – Jim is the Real Deal..
