  1. I think Dave is right. But #2, just because someone doesn’t live here anymore doesn’t mean they have ‘nothing to gain’. Dave’s support of Katrina is his opinion, it’s not truth. However, I happen to agree with him in his assessment. She will get my vote. Walsifer and McCracken will not.

  2. I’ve always been friendly with Dave, especially in the “wars” against Matt, but on this I disagree. My thing now is [Don’t vote”]. All we ever get is one group who mis-govern for another group who mis-govern (please don’t give me that “lesser of two evils” baloney).

Unfortunately, our Republic no longer exists, and we shouldn’t support, by voting, these people who keep up the facade of this government (at any level) properly functioning.

  3. I respect what Dave has to say, but I have to take Katrina at her word. I was open to supporting Katrina based on some of the posters here until I read her letter in the Coast Star singing the praises of the current mayor, BA, and council. Her own words made it clear that she is not at all out of step with Mark, Ed, et. al. and will be another yes vote to anything they want.

  4. #5 sounds like you’re ready to give up your Medicare. You can shop for insurance on the open market but you may need a reverse mortgage to pay one month of your premium. I won’t get into the countless other things you enjoy every single day that are brought to you by the government you despise. This country belongs to us all, not just you. The government and other public institutions are not a ‘them’ to our ‘us’. We are all us. You exercise your right to not vote, I will exercise my right to vote.

  5. #5 – This is what Mark Twain had to say and it’s on one of my signs I’m going to walk with starting today.

    “If
    Voting
    Mattered,
    They
    Wouldn’t
    Let Us
    Do It”

Pretty sharp fella, that Twain guy.

  6. #8 Oh I know you love your Twain.
Here’s a couple other Twain quotes you may want to plaster on your sandwich board.

“Patriot: the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about.”

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”

“Conservatism is the blind and fear-filled worship of dead radicals.”

“Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.”

“If Christ were here there is one thing he would not be—a Christian.”

Something tells me you won’t want to walk around with those quotes. I imagine the more you read of Twain, the more you will discover the two of you do not align very well.

But I agree, he is a very sharp fella.

  7. #8 – Sir, the definition of the words Bigot and Wrong are the same – Anyone who disagrees with me. So that makes you a dual bigot and wrong at the same time.

  8. #11 you calling Twain a bigot and wrong? (I’ll ignore the redundancy) I mean, he’s the one that disagrees with you. I’m just the messenger. I guess you have a right to your opinion, but the man is a national treasure. Among the greatest of American writers. That’s quite an ego you’re carrying around.
