As our small community election approaches decision time , our inboxes and mailboxes are full of rhetoric. I have always felt that Belmar was too small( or any community that cared for one another)of a community to get caught up in the negative approach of an elected, or soon to be elected officials vision. When I received a mailer from Gerald Buccafusco this weekend about the first aid building I was extremely disappointed about the disinformation his mailer contained. As current owner of this property, I have quite a bit of background on this property. These are the facts that were presented to me before I made the decision to purchase and redevelop this property. 1. The town of Belmar and the Belmar first aid could not come to an agreement under the allotted stipend tax payer dollars the Borough was willing to contribute for continuing services. I was told that the town requested to review the first aids books for the additional requested money but was denied. I applaud Mayor Walsifer for taking bold steps to protect the taxpayers of Belmar. 2. The first aid went out to bid for the property, I was the only one to bid but I gave the Borough time to work out any indifference the first aid and the Borough had before Belmar lost a vital property. I was informed that plans were under way to build a fire/first aid/ ocean rescue facility on Main st that all of Belmar could be proud of. Taking emergency services out of a neighborhood and putting it on Main st is a grand slam home run! No one can argue with that small town feeling of driving on Main st and having a beautiful first responders building there, that we can all be proud of. 3. I was part of the bidding process and I was never informed, it was not in the offering, nor was it conveyed by the offering that eminent domain by the Borough of Belmar was even an option for this property. So please Mr. Buccafusco, understand that your trust is lost before one ballot is cast when you send out Flyers with this type of headlines. Please don’t allow your deep roots in Hudson county politics be part of the progress of Belmar’s future
#1 The fact that Walsifer and the first aid folks couldn’t come to an agreement says as much about Walsifer as it does about the first aid folks. There was (and is) some legitimate reasons for the Hines family to be upset with the mayor. Perhaps if the mayor was able to summon some sincerity, a deal could have been struck. Now we have a situation where our tax payer dollars are going to pay for an over priced, contaminated, piece of property that happens to be owned by a relative of the towns business administrator (now THAT’s Hudson county) I’d rather give a stipend to a current first aid facility than plunk down millions for a new one. I disagree that the new site is a good one. It’s right across the street from the school, which places it in the midst of traffic jams and small children. But all of that is beside the point. The real issue is that, regardless of whether or not you were ‘informed’ or whether it was ‘conveyed’, Walsifer was planning to use eminent domain to obtain the property. It was well publicized and it triggered a petition to have the issue put to a vote. The success of the petition forced the mayor to scrap the whole plan. This is all very reminiscent of the former administration of this town. Back room deals, acrimonious relationships, and cronyism. For me, it was mayor Walsifer who’s trust was lost when he pulled this property shell game and remains silent while we, the tax payers, are on the hook. Taylor pavilion anyone?
I do agree that Belmar is too small, and caring, a community to get caught up in political drama and negativity. Luckily, it’s only a seasonal disorder like ragweed or the flu.
I’m confused. The town wanted to buy the property at a fair price but the residents initiated a petition against in because they didn’t want a public safety building in a residential area even though the first aid was there for a hundred years.
The mayor listened to the residents and withdrew their bid and found an alternate location on Main Street and now you’re against that. I don’t get it.

You are confused. The petition was to take the threat of eminent domain off the table. The issue with the Main St location is the way it was purchased and who it was purchased from. There is also the risk of a much larger contamination area. I’m sure Mr Creamer knows how these sites could cost big money to remediate.
#3 The petition was to halt the plan for using eminent domain to purchase the property. It was also to put the decision to spend millions on the ballot, so the people could decide. It was not to halt the fair market purchase of the property. The eminent domain threat was a political stunt used to bully the sellers. Never good when the government does that. Hope that clears it up for you.
#7 if you feel that organizing the people in order to stop the government from forcing the sale of a property is bad, then I would be careful about throwing stones in that glass house of yours. The fact that you want to try and frame this as a liberal v conservative issue is symbolic of what is wrong with this country right now. It is also a peek into how much YOU know that isn’t so. If you are against letting the people decide how the government spends our money, what does that make you? Or are you too busy blindly following the party line to know when you’re being duped?
Eminent domain or not. The boro offered a fair price for the property. The reason it was denied is because of the ongoing feud between the first aid (the almighty Hines) and Kirschenbaum.
To 9
You really believe that. The boro never offered fair market value. They didn’t like the deed restrictions which prohibited them from building a larger structure in a residential zone. Worked out well for the neighborhood.
Boy oh boy were we ever shocked by the foul, vulgar language uttered by a Democrat candidate to a Council person at Belmar’s Senior Luncheon at Djais this Wednesday. Witnesses were dumbfounded by his display.
Thank you number 1 for your honesty.
number 12 – thank you for bringing this up. The democratic mayoral candidate’s behavior at D’Jais was an eye opener for many of us. He’s a loose cannon. The lies that have been spewed by the D campaign is not what is best for Belmar.
The Mayor candidate told the Council President to go f himself in front of the seniors at the luncheon. (Sentence deleted by Editor.) Now do we really want that kind of person in position or amongst our neighborhoods, churches, children and families? That’s where I draw the line. Enough violence in politics.
#15 please stop with the puritanical nonsense. “Neighborhoods, churches, children, and families”. Hahaha. This is Belmar for Pete’s sake. There is an entire season where drunks puke all over this town while screaming obscenities in the middle of the night. And this supposed use of a swear word is where you draw the line? Hahaha.
We better get this guy in check. That’s the first time those words were ever used in D’Jais! You have people being bullied, arrested, millions in tax dollars spent recklessly and that’s what has you so upset. Unbelievable!
No actually but the editor wouldn’t publish my truths about who the dem candidate is associated with. (Sentence deleted by Editor.). The truth will prevail.
#20 the moon is made out of cheese. You can’t get the truth out there huh? Is this the only medium you’ve tried? Hahaha. Put your earth shattering news on Facebook or write a letter to the paper. Pls stop with your conspiracy BS. It’s pathetic
#18, you are a hypocrite and we’ve all heard boys will be boys. Guess what, it’s not acceptable behavior regardless of whether or not you’ve grown accustomed to
vulgarism from uncouth youths that weren’t educated much less be an attorney. Would you have approved of F-bombs in front of your Mother or Grandmothers? Now you wouldn’t!
#24 were you intentionally trying to be funny when you put the word ‘educated’ in that second sentence? I’ve never seen such an affront to the rules of grammar. I find that more offensive than a little spicy language.
The only time I’ve heard my 83 year old mother use the F-bomb is when she’s referring to Mr Kircshenbaum.
Does anyone have any recording of the alleged f bomb? Is there a context? Was he responding to an insult? Or a possibly an f bomb launched at him? Did he eat one of his French fries without asking? Or are we supposed to believe that he just told someone to ‘go f themselves’ without provocation? He certainly wouldn’t be alone in the world of political figures using profanity: Dick Cheney, George W Bush, Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Lyndon Johnson, JFK, Nixon, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama are just a small sample of famous politicians who have used profanity when referring to someone they didn’t like. I know it’s a bummer, but what are ya gonna do.

I’m just glad that any contaminated soil will be removed and properly disposed of … away from BELMAR
Mayor, is this building for fire, first aid and water rescue?

Bill Merkler: The problem with our liberal friends isn’t that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so! Borrowed from Reagan.

#9 Exactly. This is what we have in local government. Time to clean house. Unless Walsifer replaced the BA, he’ll lose this election.

Editor do you want the evidence ?
Maybe you will think twice about how one sided you are. You would be appalled
I like Jerry but he is in over his head and is so desperate now he resorts to this negativity

#18 that behavior is not acceptable and a Mayor in this case a Mayoral candidate is supposed to be setting the example. Why lower our standards.
Our standards were lowered with the Doherty administration. They have yet to climb back up.
