After a dozen years of cronyistic, self-serving, egotists running Belmar and ignoring or silencing the majority of concerned Belmartians, I too find it hard to believe things will change but this is certainly the best chance we’ve had for returning power to the people and having open minded leaders who will listen and don’t owe massive favors.
From the looks of the consent agenda, they have tirelessly been getting straight to work on fixing what’s broken. Considering what the very first resolution is on that list, I’m sure many residents are already having a very Happy New Year.

He’s alluding to the fact that the new guy is also a mayor. He has spent many years involved in municipal govt. He’ll be the first legitimate BA in a very long time.
I voted for these folks. I get that they want to celebrate their victory. But for the love of Pete, can we stop having these self congratulatory parties? You won the election, get sworn in and go to work. Don’t have a party at DJais! DJais?!? That place causes more problems for this town than the last 5 mayors combined. God I wish we had a mayor, for once, that said ‘I’m not having a party, thanks anyway. And I’m certainly not having it at DJais. As a matter of fact, my victory should be a warning sign for bars like DJais. I’m the last guy they want inside that place”. Just once. A town leader that is more interested in governance than the glad handing, social networking, and backbiting BS that is politics.
And before I get the responses about all the great stuff DJais does for the town, and they’ve been here forever, and yada yada…I am NOT talking about shutting them down. I am talking about merely making them follow the same rules as everyone else. And if our entire police force is going to spend the summer weekends working the crowd, then we, the ones footing the bill, should be properly compensated (and no, a party at the end of the summer with free well drinks and some pizza is not cutting it). There are single family homes in this town that pay less in property taxes than DJais.
Just wish that we found return to not having a BA especially now that the salary is $150k up from $**k. Seems like we could at least have hired one for the same salary or have done without. Strike one.
(Asterisks are mine.

(Sentences deleted by Editor.) Has anyone ever seen Jerry, Maria or Mark in D’jais before just to party and not at a political event? I think not. So it will be status quo with D’jais doing whatever they want. Sami ol same ol. Sad
#14 Belmar is a party town. Has been for as long as I can remember. Personally, I like the action and liveliness (sometimes craziness) that we experience in the summer. BUT we need to find a way to benefit the town more from having to deal with it.
How much of a help would it be for 10 cents from every beer sold to go to the school? or the Rec program? Or to senior programs?
March 15, 2016 article headline in the Hudson County View:
The City of Jersey City hired Democratic Freehold Borough Councilman Kevin Kane as the assistant director of the Office of Compliance at a salary of $65,000 a year on February 17th, according to public records obtained by Hudson County View.
Why can’t we do this properly? Advertise for the position. Have an impartial panel interview and hire the best candidate. That way, we can keep the person in the position no matter what political party they side with as long as they are doing the job properly.
How in God’s name did the prior BA accumulate 3 months of unused vacation, sick, comp time, whatever you want to call it? Wasn’t he on salary? Please tell me he never took a day off!
(This was brought up and explained during public session. Start listening at 26-1/2 minutes.,

#14 Yes! I meant MORE THAN. Thank you for the correction. It is beyond insanity that there are single family homes paying more in property taxes. DJais requires more public services in one summer than 10 single family homes in an entire year.
#20 spot on. Will Kane be giving up the compliance job? Let’s hope so, that would be double dipping if he kept both jobs.
In reading over this contract. It says it expires December 31,2019. I assume it was renewed annually, the last expiring December 31, 2022. Therefore he served the full term of his contract. Further it states he will not be compensated for unused vacation, sick time, etc. I’m not a lawyer but I know how to interpret a contract and could have a field day disputing paying him 40k for 3 months to do nothing.
As far as Campbell’s contract. He sat home collecting full salary for 6 months or more when he should have been fired and received nothing.
Unfortunately you will see the same old ******** with this new administration. Starting with the new BA hailing from Hudson County to George McGill. And it’s only the beginning.
#31 George McGill is a good guy. A Belmar guy. So, just so I’m clear, it’s bad to be from Hudson County AND it’s bad to be from Belmar? Boy this is a tough crowd. Would you prefer all town representatives to be grown in a test tube in a laboratory located in your basement?
I love how everyone is judged by where they’re from. If you invalidated everyone with a connection to Hudson County, you wouldn’t have many choices. Reminds me of the kind of discrimination the Irish had to deal with in the second half of the 19th century.
Tomorrow will be a great day for Belmar!!
I guess it will be status quo over at Djais with Jerry.
#2 Probably correct. Just watch more of the same garbage going on in Belmar.
Best wishes for success and a bright future!

The new BA isn’t what I expected in regards to how I thought Jerry was going to be mayor.

We now have people who are truly qualified to run this town.
He’s alluding to the fact that the new guy is also a mayor. He has spent many years involved in municipal govt. He’ll be the first legitimate BA in a very long time.
#6 I got it. Kevin Kane the mayor of Freehold and a longtime friend of Gerald?

Third strike may come during the summer
Plus stipends for old BA!

I saw the video editor. My question is HOW did he accumulate all that excess time while on salary and stipends??

#27 Strike two and three for the current administration. (Sentence deleted by Editor.). However, I’m sure the other folks would do the same.
#27 exactly. This is the kind of waste that we needs to stop.
The sad truth is that Walsifer was never the mayor, Eddie was the mayor
