I thought it was interesting she felt we should be kept in the dark about the ongoing 5g issues. She made some comments about “not wanting to say anything”. I don’t understand that thinking. If it’s that secret why are you saying anything at all? Hello.
What happened to that transparency?
Is it true she is being sued by verizon? Is that why she got appointed? I read that if she is on the council it gives her some personal protections from issues like this.
She didn’t want to keep the residents in the dark as much as she didn’t want to cross the line and discuss legal strategy against Verizon going forward at a council meeting because Verizon’s legal team most likely watches the meetings to glean any advantage against The Borough of Belmar in this ongoing fight.
Im sure Verizon has better lawyers, and more than two. If they don’t know all the angles already they wouldn’t be in business. They have been doing this for years.
They also have more money then belmar.
It’s going to get costly. We lose either way unfortunately.
In this amusing scenario, our seasonal beachfront property owners push for an unusual solution: they passionately oppose the installation of any new 5G towers, envisioning a world without 5G altogether. It’s as if they believe that eradicating 5G from existence will help maintain their exclusive beachfront haven, free from the digital age’s influence, for both tourists and locals. These peculiar beachgoers might only indulge in coastal luxury seasonally, but their commitment to blocking technological progress is a year-round spectacle!
Considering that satellite technology is beginning to make 5G look pretty infantile already and will soon start to increase its market share exponentially, and 6G technology will be rolled out in a few years and according to the engineers developing its deployment, it will be back to long range technology as 4th Generation Cellular uses, well then ‘yeah’; Blocking technological progress even for a short couple years in the courts- which Monmouth County is now helping fund lawyers for- might be a backdoor to victory over Verizon. In other words, Belmar’s chances for a victory over Goliath- however slim- just got much better because time- which usually favors the legal team with more money and resources- favors instead bold technological advancements that will sooner than later make 5G a relic of the past and its towers a relic in places like Manhattan and Asbury Park which will find themselves stuck with keeping 5G networks until the 6G rollout in places like Belmar is complete.
Not only is Belmar against 5G but what drives Starlink, AT&T Cellular, and other BIG corporate Verizon competitors is the race to “a better way” with satellite and 6G as well.
Joe,
This is not correct.
Here is why:
Satellites and 5G serve different purposes. 5G is designed for fast, low-latency wireless communication on Earth, making it ideal for mobile devices, urban areas, and densely populated regions. Satellites, on the other hand, are used to provide connectivity in remote and hard-to-reach areas where terrestrial networks are impractical or unavailable.
Building and maintaining satellite networks can be expensive. Satellites are typically used to provide coverage in areas where it’s not cost-effective to deploy 5G infrastructure.
Satellite networks have limited capacity compared to terrestrial networks.
Satellite signals can be blocked by obstacles like buildings, trees, or bad weather.
These technologies complement each other, with 5G focusing on urban and densely populated areas and satellites extending coverage to remote or underserved regions.
Mr. Nye; Thanks for enlightening me on that. So basically you’re saying if I was on the beach with a future Starlink phone on a clear summer day, I wouldn’t be able to stream at the rate of 5G even though I’d be able to send and receive calls much the same?
Better yet, if you’re on the beach, sit there and enjoy the beach. Don’t stream, don’t post, don’t email. Do the unthinkable…be present.
VZ is doing this because we live in a world of self obsessed, phone addicted, zombies. No one, literally no one, visiting the beach ‘needs’ faster internet. There is no earthly reason for it. If your desire is to spend time staring at the endless stream of nonsense on your phone screen, then stay home. Not to mention the fact that Belmar’s busy season lasts about two and a half months. How do they justify that many towers sitting on a beach that is empty for nine and a half months out of the year. The whole thing stinks of corporate greed. And, as usual, we are the canaries.
Yes!
When I say “I” that means the zombies. I rarely take my phone to the beach; Just a book and fins and the chair and towel.
It does seem like a lot of money for Verizon just to market “better 5G coverage” in a place for folks trying to get away from it all during a short 100 days as you smartly pointed out.
Wow, that’s a very interesting concept if it’s true.
Wow that is some crack journalism there. The first commenter says a bunch of ‘I thought’, ‘I heard’, ‘Is it true?’. And the second, without a hint of a desire for any kind of fact hidden in that pile of conjecture, says ‘that’s an interesting concept if it’s true’.
Are you joking? While it WOULD be an interesting concept if it was true, so would a story about her ability to fly, or turn invisible.
I’m trying to lead a more positive life. Trying not to get so angry at the blatant and wanton stupidity that infects a large portion of society. But it’s times like these where I lose it.
The answer is no. If Verizon wants to sue a person, being on the Belmar town council, while impressive, does not ‘protect’ them. Nor does being on the council protect you from a shoplifting charge, a bee sting, a murder wrap, tax evasion, J walking, a sprained ankle, or jury duty. One does not have to be a lawyer to answer that question. One just needs to have a functioning brain in their head. I’m sorry, I know that was mean, but COME ON!
The proposed 5g towers should not be installed. I am grateful to anyone fighting this obvious money grab. They are unnecessary and hideous. I happen to have that companies cell service and I never have any problems in summer or winter. If this is merely a ‘service upgrade’, then figure out another way to upgrade. I have no problem waiting because there is nothing wrong with my service now.
I will drop ‘that cell company’ if they install the cell towers. I think everyone should.
I wouldn’t compare it to Bud Lite though. This is a principled stance against a company that wants to affect our quality of life by installing a couple dozen cell towers along the beautiful ocean front in order to increase profits. Bud Lite was boycotted by a bunch of cowardly snowflakes whose feelings were hurt because a private company paid a spokesperson who never did a thing to any of them.
Verizon is about fighting corporate greed. Bud Lite was overly sensitive bigots with chapped a#%holes.
Totally different.
News flash. If you drop verizon, I hope you drop your entire cell plan. Also don’t forget to drop your internet connection. Make sure EMS drops all their trunk lines as well.
Verizon owns the cell towers. They lease data to TMobile and all the smaller carriers.
Verizon owns the major Fiber lines as well.
Good luck dropping verizon. It will make you feel good but won’t ding them one bit.
Just small town politics getting people fired up over nothing.
We consumers have more power than we realize. Yes, just one person dropping VZ won’t make a difference, but thousands? If everyone who is upset with VZ for installing these antennas dropped their service, then maybe they’d take notice. There is strength in numbers.
T-Mobile uses its own towers and operates its own network.

Any lawyers available to comment?

Thank you, Joe. The same reason why I do not allow comments having to do with ongoing lawsuits.

Well I suggest the first thing you do is drop your, this, phone service. There are plenty others out there better and cheaper. Anyone for a Bud Lite?
