For the rich and famous only.
DEP approved this but gave the town a hard time with a removable bathroom trailer on the beachfront?
There is a lot more this Mayor and Council are not sharing. They ran on no development like this and transparency. A lot of things going on behind closed doors since May.
notice of the CAFRA approval was published in the ‘DEP Bulletin’ on January 17, 2024 …. the start of a statute clock …. the Borough has 30 days to appeal the decision. ?
I thought this project was a no-go?
Honestly it is my opinion that once the previous administration increased the height from 52 feet to 60 feet, and changing the ordinance to reflect the change, this project will get approved eventually. That decision gave the green light to the developer to proceed.
Even though the current administration reversed the ordinance back to the original 52 feet it will be very difficult to stop it since now they got the approval from the NJ DEP Land Use.
I could see the Borough appealing the decision and try to stop it but will not change a thing. Belmar Inn is an example. Developers and Politicians, they win all the time at the expense of the tax payers and people that live in Belmar.
It’s over Johnny. We be screwed. I won’t see it. Be dead prior to start.
The project is not a no go, this project and several others are part of a litigation and now no one in belmar is going to have notice or a say. The judge will rule and that will be that
I think the Mediterranean Project and the Belmar Inn Project are both good for the town.
The Mediterranean project is bordered by the train tracks and the highway.
Anything is better than the Belmar Inn.
Hmm … 223 residential dwelling units … some will meet ‘affordable housing’ criteria?
Apartments -which will provide no tax relief to the rest of us locals – but we ll have to put up with the insane amount of traffic on 8th and 10th. UGH
Condos with property tax paying residents plz- just like there are across from The Mediterranean on 10th ave!
Agree. They should be condos not rental like the Marina view tower on 10th across the street and instead of 5 levels to 4 levels.
You are kidding yourself if you think building condos will bring any kind of tax relief. Your taxes will never go down, they will only go UP.
Is this gonna be another PILOT project? I’m old and have come to accept (some) change but I feel not enough thought is put into the hidden additional needs that come with these projects. Roads, sewer, water system, traffic, pollution, police, first aid, parking …… The fat cat developers makes tons while leaving the present residents with inflated taxes. Please, please DON’T tell me my taxes will go down with added residential units. It just NEVER NEVER happens. I will not debate you on that.
Taxes will never go down. Belmar will need more water sewers roads police first aid etc. Going to be a total disaster for us old folks. Next is more people in local government. New building soon. Never ends. The town can’t even control the damn geese.
Your $$$$$ is being spent like A WATER faucet without a spigot. Oh yeah, Belmar Water quality and our Aquifer was historically clean.
Since Belmar is in NOTICE of contaminants will Fountains and showers on the beach compromise health?
I would love to see a decent chain hotel go in that spot. Hampton inn, Marriott, Holliday inn, etc.
Not enough of year round $$.
Strange to me that there is enough year round $$ in Wall, Tinton Falls, Eatontown, Neptune etc. to have nice chain hotels but not Belmar? I don’t buy it.
It’s true.
Why on earth would you want a chain hotel there?
I just want to know why the Mayor Jerry and Business BA Kevin, and no one came forward to tell about all these projects that are going to be going up. Where’s the transparency you ran on Jerry?????????? And don’t blame this on the prior admin as they were not responsible for all the buildings on Main that was your buddy Matt, oh who you gifted the Cafe to this summer.
I agree with Anonymous. Why are we finding out about this CAFRA permit and the project still being alive through this blog and not transparent discussion at the council meetings?
And a ridiculous stop sign in front of his house!
Stupid stop signs are not STNJ DOT sanctioned. Look it up.
Well it was the last admin that literally changed the law so that the building could be another 8 feet taller. They literally did that. Why? When asked, their answer was basically, ‘ah you won’t even notice’. Maybe you don’t blame the prior admin, but I sure do.
And if one admin can set that guideline then next can set their own right???
Rezone this area to a lower height restriction and get condos not apartments!
the biggest redevelopment area mistake that Belmar made was the self-inflicted loss of eminent domain powers.
