You all realize that green acres funds are not “free” right? $583k for pickleball and a “boardwalk” extension is outrageous.
A Green Acres low-percentage rate loan isn’t free, but a Green Acres grant is. This may be one or the other, or possibly a combination of the two. It’d be a good inquiry via email to the Belmar Business Administrator as to which.
Also as Mr. Creamer mentioned, around the bend just west of Maclearie Park would be a great spot for an Osprey nesting box. One could easily be erected in less than half a day during low tide and the town already has a handful of volunteers ready to build and erect one, if The Boro would supply the materials; (Two-by lumber, carriage bolts, and a hydro-pole.)
Think it over…
Parking sucks at Maclearie Park in the evenings during July and August already. Additional Pickleball Courts adjacent to Jane Magovern’s Playground on the western side of Silver Lake Park would be a location where old growth trees don’t have to be taken down for the space, and where primarily residents from the other side of town can easily walk to or bike to in the warm months and find adequate parking near in the cooler weather months. Take some of that lawn back from the Canada Geese at Silver Lake and leave the enormous trees at Maclearie to soak up future rainwaters that inundate the park grounds in the springtime while spreading the wealth of racquet sport venues about town thus making Pickleball conveniently accessible to all neighborhoods.
Parking was my first thought. You are right that there isn’t enough parking there as it is and it’s not reasonable to force people to the marina and worsen that problem.
One issue with Maclerie Park might be the noise pickleball generates. Some towns have had issues with this and it appears to be a consideration when placing these facilities. Tinton Falls and Spring Lake are examples.
