    the weekend! Though much maligned now by some of our friends on the right, the labor movement in this country built the middle class.

    1. Wrong. The powerful, rich of this country built the labor movement that built the middle class. Control of workers. Illusion.

        The rich and powerful of the early 19th century, at the time called robber barons, violently apposed the labor movement. The labor movement, created workers rights through collective bargaining and the formation of unions.
        The catalyst, as any high school freshman knows, was the 1911 triangle shirtwaist factory fire in NYC. Over 140 men and women perished largely due to the fact that they were literally locked in the factory floor. They were locked in by, you guessed it, the rich and powerful business owner.
        Labor Day celebrates the American Labor Movement. Many people died or were beaten to fight for changes to make the work place safe and to create the living wage. Thus creating the middle class.

        Pick up a book now and again, you may learn something. Or keep your head in the sand and stay ignorant. What do I care.
